Distillation Analysers

Laboratory distillations are fundamental to process control and product specifications. Distillation characteristics are used to determine product volatility and suitability for specific application.

Most petroleum products are a mixture of different compounds with different boiling points. The distillation curve identifies those boiling points as well as the volume of liquid within each boiling range. Depending on the liquid being tested, distillations may be performed at either atmospheric or reduced pressure.Laboratory distillations are fundamental to process control and product specifications. Distillation characteristics are used to determine product volatility and suitability for specific application.

The standard test methods require precise control of distillation conditions, including sample heating, temperature detection, distillation rate, condenser and receiver temperatures, and recovery volume measurement. A liquid sample is boiled under prescribed conditions and the vapours condensate and collects in a graduated cylinder. Vapour temperature is recorded at specific recovery volumes. The distillation curve is calculated from this data.
